Which for you is the most difficult to schedule to get to make a humanlike robot?
Para tí que es lo más difícil de programar para poder tener un robot humanoide?
The most difficult parts is the facial expression. Human can be sad and happy, making Aiko doing the same takes special silicone that can mimic human expression is not an easy task. Still working on it for Aiko V2.
La parte más difícil es la expresión facial. El humano puede estar alegre o triste, para que Aiko haga lo mismo se necesita silicón especial que puede imitar la expresión humana pero no es una tarea fácil. Aún estoy trabajando en ello para Aiko V2.

I have always dream making Human robot since I was a kid, but never have the knowledge or money to start until 2007. I build simple small robot when I was younger and only natural that I start making larger robot as I grew older.
Siempre soñé hacer un robot humano desde que era niño, pero nunca tuve el conocimiento o el dinero hasta 2007. Construí robots pequeños en mi adolescencia y cuando entre a la edad adulta inicié robots más grandes.

How long dures all project?
Cuanto duró todo el proyecto?

I started officially August 2007. The project will never be finished until I die, Aiko will always improve over time or teach her new things. Just like human we always learn new things every days.

Inició oficialmente en Agosto del 2007. El proyecto nunca terminará hasta que muera. Siempre se mejorará a Aiko con el tiempo o se le enseñarán nuevas cosas, como a un humano siempre aprende nuevas cosas todos los días.

How long you think we came to be among the robots in everyday activities
Cuanto piensas que tardarán en estar entre nosotros los robots en las actividades cotidianas?
I believed in another 25-35 years more. Simply because the technology can be made better and smaller. And finally the price go down.
Just like computer 20 years ago.
Yo creo que en otros 25-35 años más. Simplemente porque la tecnología puede hacerse mejor y más pequeña. Y finalmente el precio baja.

How did you come up with the idea for this AIKO proyect.?

A Young Boy’s Dream…

In the past year, I have been repeatedly asked why I wanted to build Aiko. It actually starts back in the 70s during my childhood where I spent a lot of time watching Japanese anime which often featured robot themes. I remember saying to myself as a child, “I will build one of those when I grow up.” Throughout my life, I have built many prototypes and smaller robots. However, the greatest motivation came after watching “Chobits.” That was when I decided I had to build a life size gynoid (robot designed to look like a human female). It was August 15, 2007. And I knew that all I needed to build it was a little inspiration and passion.

El año pasado, repetidamente me preguntaba porque quería construir a Aiko. Realmente me remonté a los años 70’s durante mi niñez donde pasaba mucho tiempo viendo las caricaturas japonesas las cuales comúnmente caracterizan temas robóticos, recuerdo diciéndome a mi mismo como niño, “construiré uno cuando crezca” En toda mi vida he construido muchos prototipos y robots más pequeños. Sin embargo la mayor motivación llegó después de ver “Chobits”, Fue cuando decidí construir un ginoide de tamaño real (robot diseñado para parecer como una mujer humana). Fue el 15 de Agosto, 2007. Y supe que todo lo que necesitaba para construirlo era un poco de inspiración y pasión.

i was in a metting tecnology TECDO 2008 In DOM. REP. and I saw a robot but it wasnt a real memo voice, it was a person with a microphone.
Estuve en una reunión de tecnología TECDO 2008. En República Dominicana y observé un robot pero no tenía una voz de memoria real, era una persona con un micrófono.
I have voice engine, for talking and singing.

Having Aiko’s sister in every home. To make as real as possible …. Look and act like human. To help people around the house. Especially the elderly.
Tener un hermano Aiko en cada casa. Hacerlo tan real como sea posible. Actuar y parecer un humano. Ayudar a la gente alrededor de la casa. Especialmente los ancianos.

En donde aprendiste a hacer las cosas que haces?
 I learn to program when I was younger, I learn as I go. I study mostly chemistry in school, have nothing to do with robotic or programming.
Aprendí a programar desde muy joven, lo fue aprendiendo. Estudie mayormente química en la escuela, no tenía nada que ver con robótica o programación.

Como puede aiko sentir tu piel?
>Aiko have special array of sensors under the silicone. Therefore, Aiko knows when you touch gently or being poke at.

 You have to teach her once new faces, and the next time Aiko will remember your face.

 Aiko’s leg can NOT move yet. Aiko V2 will have new legs and can move.

BRAINS software: which took me many years to program.

I use my own money, mostly credit cards.
So far it cost me $50,000. Most of it from borrowing money from bank and credit card Visa.
